Did somebody say…Katy Perry?

The number one UK sonic identity gets a pop refresh

Posted by Alice Finn

It is the start of a new era as Katy Perry takes the reins as the new face and voice of Just Eat, following the roaring success of Snoop Dogg – a campaign that raised the bar for food delivery app ads, showed off Just Eat’s playful sense of humour, and put them on the cultural map.

This new rendition brought to us by Just Eat and their creative agency partner, McCann London, maintains the same musical undercurrents, but replaces Snoop Dogg’s assured swagger with Katy Perry’s eccentric and excitable nature, celebrating the joy that comes with the idea of ordering food.

Although Snoop Dogg’s rendition is a tough act to follow, Katy Perry is the perfect partnership to continue to build brand love.

With music and lyrics co-created by Katy Perry, Kris Pooley, McCann London and the team responsible for the original Snoop Dogg rendition of Just Eat’s ‘Did Somebody Say’, you can expect a littering of food-based puns, and music nearly as eccentric as the surrealist, visually delicious house that the ad is centred around.

Fans of the singer will know that the fun of food has been a consistent theme in her work over the years – who can forget the California Gurls music video, featuring Snoop Dogg, whipped cream, and a whole lot of desserts. Perry’s rendition of ‘Did Somebody Say’ is a brilliant display of her fun nature, and is a clear match with Just Eat’s playful identity.

Susan O’Brien, vice-president of global brand at Just Eat Takeaway.com commented: “It’s the perfect partnership to continue building the instinctive connection between Just Eat and the joy of food delivery.”

There is no doubt about it. Snoop Dogg’s rendition not only set the precedent for Just Eat, but raised the bar in a fiercely competitive industry. For two years, Just Eat has dined out on the success, ranking as the number one sonic identity in the UK according to 2022 data by SoundOut, and has had families across the nation singing their brand name.

Although Snoop Dogg’s rendition is a tough act to follow, Katy Perry is the perfect partnership to continue to build brand love.

If you've got a story about the power of sound and music, we're all ears.
